TAEL
Tael is a Chinese unit of measurement used for herbal medicine and gold and silver.
 
TAPERING
A gradual winding down of central bank activities used to improve the conditions for economic growth. Tapering activities is primarily aimed at interest rates and investor expectations of what those rates will be in the future.
The term can also be applied to signify the slowing down of QE.
 
TECHNICAL ANALYSIS
Analysis used in forecasting the direction of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume.
 
TICK
The standard term for the smallest price movement in a contract.
 
TRADING RANGE
A market where prices are range bound by a higher and lower price band. Normally markets will range trade when there is little or no news.
 
TREASURY INFLATION PROTECTED SECURITIES (TIPS)
A treasury security that is indexed to inflation in order to protect investors from the negative effects of inflation. TIPS are considered an extremely low-risk investment since they are backed by the US government and since their par value rises with inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, while their interest rate remains fixed.
 
TROIKA
The tripartite committee led by the European Commission with the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, that organizes loans to indebted Eurozone member states.
